Who we are

Lightshot Photography was set up in 2017 by Derrick Dunbar, specialising in the provision of commercial drone services to the forestry and agriculture sectors across the UK.Based in Dumfriesshire Scotland, Derrick’s background is in forestry and arboriculture and holds City and Guilds qualifications in both disciplines. However, he is also a professional photographer and when he was introduced to drone technology in 2017 and saw the quality of the images produced, he realised he could combine both of his passions and bring the benefit of drones to these two sectors.Derrick is Civil Aviation Authority Approved, Permission for Commercial Operation Approved and is fully insured to operate worldwide.

Our Equipment

Our experience with drones counts for a lot but it’s the technology we use that really makes us stand out.Our drones are fitted with the most up to date NDVI multispectral cameras which means they are ideal for use in the Forestry and Agriculture industries. An NDVI camera is different from a typical one in that it contains sensors that capture non-visible light, particularly light in the infrared frequency range, producing a combination of an infrared camera and a typical RGB camera.Reflected light captured in the infrared range and the visible light range are stored in separate images, and their values can be combined in several ways to generate composite NDVI images, crucial to secure the accuracy required by our clients.

Our experience

In the forestry sector, we have helped clients monitor the health of their forests, with mapping and surveying, providing precision forestry management and surveying storm damage. We have also supported farmers in crop management, soil mapping, irrigation optimisation and have even used our drone technology to help them accurately predict crop yields. But while we specialise in forestry and agriculture, we have also been using drones in the construction industry and to conduct inspections for a wide range of clients for a number of years. Our drones have been involved in a range of jobs from inspecting damaged roofs and conducting estate agent surveys to inspecting wind farm turbines and assessing the extent of widespread flood damage. The applications of drone technology seem to be endless and we constantly surprise ourselves, as well as clients, with their versatility.
