Who we are

UK Drone Inspections was set up in 2021 by professional commercial photographer Simon Gee but his photographic talents have been applied far beyond the traditional commercial world. Simon spent 15 years as an Artic wildlife guide in Canada touring guests in extreme off-road vehicles in severe, sub-zero temperatures to view the Hudson Bay wildlife including polar bears, wolves, caribou, arctic foxes and Beluga whales, all of which he photographed. His passion for wildlife photography has seen him work with some of the world’s leading TV and film crews including National Geographic, BBC Arctic Live and the Discovery Channel. On his return to the UK in 2016, and in order to continue to photograph in more extreme environments, he started exploring the possibilities of drones to help him get the best, most unique shots possible for both private and commercial clients.

Our Equipment

UK Drone Inspections deploys the latest professional drones such as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and its amazing 20mp/4K high definition camera. This is an absolute workhorse of a drone that copes in most weather and lighting conditions.Due to its size and unobtrusive nature, the Mavic 2 pro is suitable for most external drone operations that require imaging in the visual spectrum. For even tighter areas where space is an issue or a smaller drone is required, we use the DJI Mavic Mini 2 which not only has amazing image quality but has the ability to zoom in up to 4x whilst capturing 1080p video.  For more specialised tasks, we use the caged Flybotix ASIO for interior flue, pipe and LOLER lift shaft inspections. And for environmental monitoring and inspections we deploy the Phantom multispectral using an NVDI camera for use in horticulture, agriculture and forestry to provide insight into growth patterns, crop health or vegetation management.Whatever the need and whatever the site, we almost certainly have the drones and the cameras to deliver.

Our experience

Simon has over five years’ experience flying drones commercially and holds Permission for Commercial Operations (PFCO) from the Civil Aviation Authority and supports a broad range of businesses from various sectors to conduct inspections faster, cheaper and more safely. He has a BSc Honours degree in Horticulture, specialising in land management and land use and has taught practical environmental conservation for several years as a City and Guilds D32/34 Qualification Assessor in a south London nature reserve. As such, Simon’s experience makes him well-placed to support the land use sector, particularly woodland, nature reserves and forestry management. But he has extensive experience applying drone technology to various sectors, from residential/industrial roof inspections and environmental surveys to conducting insurance inspections and land elevation mapping across the UK.He also regularly undertakes 3D modelling photogrammetry missions using software such as DroneDeploy, Maps-Made-Easy, Pix4d and is currently working with national engineering firms and local borough councils on waste management issues and land grabs.

Why us

Drones are only as effective as the individuals operating them and Simon’s qualifications and experience in land management and drone flight makes UK Drone Services the ideal partner for environmental, agricultural, engineering or construction firms looking for a safer, cheaper and more accurate approach to surveys and inspections.Drones provide access to previously inaccessible areas or where project costs need to be reduced, producing the necessary data quickly, efficiently and securely. The data captured by drones can be accessed almost immediately, making decision making faster and more effective.Simon’s services and approach to drone inspections, while consistent, are always tailored to the specific sector and client needs ensuring that whatever the task in hand is, he is able to deliver the highest spec results quickly and safely every time.
