The A2 Certificate of Competency is relevant to operations within the Open A2 sub-category, often described as “Near People”. Whether you need it depends on your aircraft and intended operation. If you are unsure, tell us what you plan to fly and where before purchasing.

How Your Course Works
01 · Purchase Your Course
Add the course to your basket and follow the checkout instructions for your order.
02 · Complete the Theory
Study the online learning materials and use mock examinations to check your understanding. Follow the course access instructions provided by the training team.
03 · Complete the Practical Preparation
Carry out the required self-directed practical training and complete the associated declaration. You will need access to a suitable drone and a suitable place to practise.
04 · Take Your Assessment
Arrange the online theory examination using the course instructions. Certification depends on meeting the qualification requirements, not simply buying the course.
Practical Training: What Do You Need?
This online product is not an instructor-led flying course. A2 requires self-directed practical training; a practical flight examination is not part of the standard A2 qualification. You also need a Flyer ID.
If you do not own a drone, ask us about suitable aircraft access or additional practical support before booking. Any equipment supply, hire or instructor-led flying sessions must be agreed separately and should not be assumed to be included.

Your Questions Answered
Do I need to be an experienced pilot?
No previous experience is needed to begin learning. You must still complete the required practical preparation and assessment requirements.
How long do I have to study?
The package includes 12 months of portal access, giving you flexibility to work through the learning. This is separate from the validity of the qualification.
What if I do not pass first time?
The package includes one free theory re-test. The training team will explain the arrangements and help you identify what to revisit.
Does the certificate permit every drone flight?
No. You must still meet the rules applicable to your aircraft, operating category and location. An A2 CofC does not replace any separate authorisation required for an operation.
