EMMCA Skills Bootcamp

Bring drone surveying skills into your construction business

IPROSURV | EAST MIDLANDS SKILLS BOOTCAMP

Develop an existing team member’s ability to plan drone flights, capture site information and turn aerial data into useful maps, models and measurements.

For construction, civil engineering, surveying and digital construction professionals who want to apply drone technology to the work they already do.

No previous drone experience required. Training aircraft provided.

Blended delivery

Online study, instructor-led practical training, data processing and applied project activity.

Workplace applications

Site records, progress monitoring, survey capture, stockpile measurement and earthworks workflows.

Funding routes

Programmes supporting eligible employers and learners through South Yorkshire and East Midlands funding.

A practical capability for the people already on your projects

Give your site engineers, surveyors and project teams another way to collect and use information. The Skills Bootcamp connects drone operation with the surveying and reporting tasks that construction professionals recognise.

Bring a real business question with you: how could we improve site records, measure material stockpiles or create clearer progress reports?

Use the programme to explore an approach suited to your organisation, before deciding what equipment to invest in.

IS THIS YOUR ROUTE?

Let’s check your regional eligibility

The EMCCA region covers Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. We welcome enquiries from North Nottinghamshire and the wider authority area, with postcode and programme eligibility checked individually.

Our current offer focuses on developing skills for work, including existing employees supported by their employer and self-employed professionals. Tell us where you live and work, your employment status and what you want to use the training for.

We check age, residency and right-to-work requirements, as well as course suitability and any previous Skills Bootcamp participation. An enquiry lets us establish the correct route before you enrol.

FUNDING AND CONTRIBUTIONS

What could your training contribution be?

100%

Funded for eligible self-employed learners

No learner training contribution where the fully funded route applies. Self-employment and other eligibility evidence are required.

90%

Funded for smaller employers

Employers with fewer than 250 employees contribute 10% when training existing staff.

70%

Funded for larger employers

Employers with 250 or more employees contribute 30% when training existing staff.

Funding is subject to eligibility, the programme agreement and available places. We confirm your contribution and any applicable VAT in writing before enrolment.

THE LEARNING JOURNEY

From planning a flight to using the information

Learn why capture decisions matter, build practical confidence and explore how digital information could fit into your existing workflow.

Prepare the operation

Work through the site, operating environment and decisions needed before a flight.

Develop practical flying

Build aircraft handling skills through supported exercises and planned procedures.

Design your capture

Match the capture method to the question you need your dataset to answer.

Explore digital processing

Work through how captured information becomes something a project team can review.

Understand measurement

Explore quantities and comparisons, including the checks needed to make an output useful.

Apply it at work

Develop an approach to using the skills in your role or business, with a clear next step.

The programme introduces mapping, photogrammetry, 3D data and measurement applications. Ask for the current syllabus to confirm the depth of LiDAR and other specialist topics for your cohort.

Qualifications alongside application skills

The advertised programme includes training towards the A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) and General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC), subject to the relevant assessments. We confirm the qualification route before enrolment.

Qualifications are part of developing your capability. Your intended operation, equipment and any separate permission requirements also need consideration before commercial deployment.

A programme planned around learning and application

Online preparation

Build knowledge and prepare for the practical elements through the agreed online learning.

Instructor-supported practice

Apply the learning with the training team. Aircraft are supplied for practical activity.

Digital work and follow-through

Explore an application and identify how the skills could support your role or business.

Dates, venue and attendance: ask for the next cohort timetable. We confirm all compulsory sessions, the practical location, study commitments and assessment arrangements before you join. Funding region does not automatically determine the venue.

What we ask from learners and employers

  • Complete the agreed learning, practical sessions and assessments.
  • Identify a relevant use for the skills and take part in the required progression discussions.
  • Support follow-up after training so we can understand how the learning is being applied.

The aim is a useful next step at work, whether that means new responsibilities, an improved workflow or developing your business services.

Your questions answered

Do I need a drone or previous flying experience?

No. You can join without owning an aircraft or having flown before. We check suitability and provide training aircraft for practical activity.

Is the practical training necessarily in East Midlands?

Not necessarily. Ask for the confirmed venue and all practical dates before enrolment, particularly if you need to plan travel or time away from work.

Can I apply if I am not currently working?

Tell us your circumstances. The current offer focuses on workforce and business skills; the team will check whether a suitable funded route or another training option is available.

Does submitting the form secure my place?

No. We first check the route and suitability, discuss the timetable and explain the enrolment steps. Funding and a place are confirmed separately.

LET’S FIND YOUR NEXT STEP

Explore your East Midlands Bootcamp options

Tell us about your role, organisation and the skills you want to develop. Please include your home and workplace postcodes and mention East Midlands so we can check the relevant funding route.

An enquiry starts a conversation. It does not confirm funding or reserve a place.
