1. What is the A2CofC and GVC renewal process?

The A2 Certificate of Competency (A2CofC) and General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) renewal process involves completing a theory test, providing documentation, and in some cases, demonstrating recent flight activity. These steps ensure compliance with the latest Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.

2. Can the renewal process be completed online?

Yes, Iprosurv offers a fully online renewal process through a personal learning portal. This includes access to a revision module, learning confirmation tests, and the option to complete the theory test online.

If you are renewing your GVC certificate you need to do an in person flight assessment, however there are exemptions which may negate this, the exemptions are listed in this FAQ below.

3. What happens if I fail the theory test?

If you fail the theory test, you must complete the full theoretical course again and take a different final assessment paper. Iprosurv provides comprehensive revision package to help you succeed.

4. How does Iprosurv help operators prepare for the theory test?

Iprosurv offers an online course with a revision module to refresh your knowledge. The course also includes mock tests and learning confirmation to ensure you are fully prepared for the final theory exam.

5. What documents are required for renewal?

You will need:

  • Proof of identity (e.g., passport or driving licence)
  • Current A2CofC or GVC certificate
  • Valid Flyer ID
  • Flight logs (for GVC renewal, showing a minimum of 2 hours of flight activity in the last 3 months) these must be verifiable with logs or reports, Iprosurv provide a flight log template if needed.
6. Is the practical flight assessment mandatory for GVC renewal?

Yes, all remote pilots must retake the practical flight assessment unless they can demonstrate verifiable recent flight activity and competency through logs or records.

You may be exempt if you can satisfy all of the below all of the below:

  • Proof of identity (e.g., passport or driving licence)
  • Current in date A2CofC or GVC certificate
  • Valid Flyer ID
  • Flight logs (for GVC renewal, showing a minimum of 2 hours of flight activity in the last 3 months) these must be verifiable with logs or reports, Iprosurv provide a flight log template if needed.
7. What is the pass mark for the theory test?

To pass the theory test, you must score at least 75%. Iprosurv’s learning platform ensures you are well-prepared to achieve this benchmark.

  • For the A2 CofC there are 40 questions
  • For the GVC there are 60 Questions
8. Are there any exemptions from the practical flying test?

Exemptions may apply if you meet specific criteria, and can provide all of the information listed below. However, all remote pilots must complete a theory test during renewal.

  • Proof of identity (e.g., passport or driving licence)
  • Current A2CofC or GVC certificate
  • Valid Flyer ID
  • Flight logs (for GVC renewal, showing a minimum of 2 hours of flight activity in the last 3 months) these must be verifiable with logs or reports, Iprosurv provide a flight log template if needed.
9. How does Iprosurv ensure compliance with CAA regulations?

Iprosurv is a Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE 13964) approved by the CAA. All results from theory and practical assessments are logged with the CAA to maintain compliance and up-to-date records.

10. How do I book my renewal with Iprosurv?

You can book your renewal for both the A2CofC and GVC certifications through Iprosurv’s website or by contacting the team at 01144 0550077.

11. Is the final theory exam invigilated.

The theory exam is invigilated as per CAA guidelines for Quality Audit of the RAE process and exam procedure, the exam can be carried out online or in person at our location.

The online exam will be carried out via Microsoft TEAMS which we will provide the link for prior to the exam.

For the online exam you will need:

  • A Computer with internet access, webcam and microphone.
  • Proof of ID.
  • A room where you will not be disturbed.

13. Will I get a copy of the exam questions and answers on completion.

On completion of the exam pass or fail you will be emailed a copy of your exam questions and answers, Iprosurv will also retain a copy for CAA audit.

14. Can I do any revision or mock exams?

As part of the package through Iprosurv you will receive access to our online learning portal, where there are revision modules and conformation of knowledge tests, these are non-mandatory and if you are confident you can skip straight to the final theory exam.
