FAQ's

Are drone docks/hangers portable?

Drone docks and hangers are portable from project to project, however it is highly recommended that the dock is fixed in place. Like any mechanical items they can be susceptable to damage in transit.

The dock is not designed to be mounted on a vehicle or similar for various reasons such as connections, interferance from the vehicle and metal, transport damage, and security.

The dock is normally mounted on a flat robust foundation such as concrete.

In the case of the DJI dock 2 it does come with instalation instructions.

Iprosurv can also arrange the instalation of the dock/hanger.

Can I operate the drone dock from a remote location?

Yes you can operate the drone dock from a remote location, however this is where consultation is paramount to advising you on your options. At the moment legislation dictates that you can buy a drone dock and have it installed, if you want to operate it from a remote location such as an operations room you will need to have a person at the side of the dock with a separate transmitter plugged in that has been trained to General Visual certificate level. The drone also has to remain within visual line of sight of the person next to the dock/hanger.

If you want to fly the drone from a remote location without a person next to the dock/hanger then you will need to apply to the CAA for an operational safety case, this could take up to twelve months to secure.

As legislation and regulation progress this may change.

Iprosurv can advise you on all your options within our consultation period.

How is the dock connected?

On instalation there is a requirement for a power and internet supply, there is a backup power supply within most docks for emergencies but this will have a limited supply.

All of this information will be covered in a consultation.

Can I install a dock anywhere?

At the moment the dock/hanger operation is limited to visual line of sight, once beyond visualline of sight operations have been legislated and CAA permisions granted, it is envisaged this will be in A-typlical Airspace only which is very low risk airspace with little or no chance of the drone entering manned aviation airspace or areas of high density population.

In time as trial progresss and dlegislation eveolves this may change.

What is the future of drones and drone hangers/docks?

We are only just scratching the surface of how drones will be integrated into organisations and businesses. Use cases are evolving every day as is the technolgy of drones and sensors. Certain sectors and markets are already heavily investing in drones such as:

  • Security
  • construction
  • Engineering
  • Agriculture
  • Deliveries

And many more, as drone acceptance grows, which it will, drone will become more a part of our lives.

The benefits drones can bring are huge and this will continue to grow as technology and legislation and industry uses grow!
