Train your first in-house drone and digital construction specialist in just 10 weeks – with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and NOCN Level 3 qualifications.
From January 2026, RNN Group, T3 Training & Development and Iprosurv (a CAA Recognised Assessment Entity), supported by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), are delivering a new Integrated Drone Surveying and Digital Construction Technologies Skills Bootcamp at Dearne Valley College.
In 10 weeks, two days per week, learners move from drone site surveys through photogrammetry, 3D mapping, BIM and Autodesk Revit, ready to work confidently in a data-driven construction environment.

Who is Skills Bootcamp for:
This Skills Bootcamp is designed for people and organisations in the built environment who want to combine drone technology with digital construction.
It is ideal for:
- Construction companies and contractors
- Surveying and geomatics practices
- Utilities and infrastructure providers
- Local authorities and housing organisations
- Architectural practices and design consultancies
Typical learners might be:
- Site engineers and project managers
- Land and building surveyors
- Architects and architectural technologists
- Asset managers and inspectors
- Technicians looking to specialise in digital construction
Whether you are new to the sector or already working in construction and want to upskill into drone and BIM roles, this Bootcamp is built to support you.
What you will learn:
Across 10 weeks (two days per week), learners progress through four connected areas of practice:
1. Drone operations and CAA-compliant surveying
- Understand UK CAA regulations, airspace and operational planning
- Plan and conduct CAA-compliant drone site surveys
- Apply safe systems of work and risk assessment on live-style sites
- Collect high-quality imagery and data ready for processing
2. Photogrammetry, 3D mapping and point clouds
- Turn raw imagery into orthomosaics and 3D point clouds
- Understand coordinate systems, ground control and accuracy
- Prepare survey outputs for use across project teams
3. BIM processes and Autodesk Revit workflows
- Understand the role of BIM and digital twins in modern construction
- Bring survey outputs into Autodesk Revit and related tools
- Support visualisation, clash detection and project tracking
- Link site conditions to models to support decision making
4. Real projects and portfolio development
- Work with realistic project scenarios and datasets
- Document your workflow from field data capture to BIM model
- Build a portfolio you can show to employers and clients
- Understand where drone and digital construction skills fit into wider project delivery

Qualifications you will achieve:
Industry-recognised CAA and NOCN Level 3 qualifications
Successful learners will achieve industry-recognised qualifications, including:
- Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC)
- CAA General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC)
- NOCN Level 3 Award in Digital Construction Technology
- NOCN Level 3 Award in Autodesk Revit Essentials
These qualifications are designed to:
- Provide you with formal CAA-recognised certifications to operate drones safely and compliantly
- Provide Level 3 recognition for your digital construction and Revit skills
- Demonstrate to employers that you can bridge the gap between site and digital workflows
How the Skills Bootcamp works:
- Location: Dearne Valley College, Manvers Park, Wath upon Dearne, Rotherham S63 7EW
- Start date: January 2026
- Duration: 10 weeks, two days per week
- Delivery model: Mix of classroom-based sessions, software labs and practical drone training
- Lead partners: RNN Group, T3 Training & Development, Iprosurv (CAA Recognised Assessment Entity)
- Supported by: South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA)
The structure is designed to allow learners to continue working while developing new skills. Each week layers theory and practice:
- Morning sessions typically focus on theory, regulation, digital processes and software
- Afternoon sessions focus on applied exercises, project work and, where appropriate, practical drone operations
Between sessions, learners complete guided portfolio tasks, building evidence of their skills and confidence as they progress.
